Jason Schreurs
I’m a music and health writer, podcast host, and self-proclaimed punk weirdo.
I’m the author of the memoir-plus Scream Therapy: A Punk Journey through Mental HealthI host, and produce the renowned Scream Therapy podcast, as well as its Flex Your Head offshoot. I’m also the nascent publisher at Flex Your Head Press.
I’ve written about music and culture for a loooong time, and I’ve also been a publisher and editor at community and student newspapers. I hold an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from the University of King’s College and a Journalism Diploma from Langara College.
In October 2018, I was diagnosed with bipolar. In addition to focusing on my own mental health, I volunteer as a bipolar support group facilitator for the Mood Disorders Association of BC, a health coach for Self-Management BC, and a crisis line supporter for Kids Help Phone.
I’m happiest when I screaming into dented microphones and playing my guitar like it’s a percussion instrument. Who’s my desert island band, you ask? Fugazi.
I live with my partner, also a writer, in the qathet Regional District, a small coastal area north of Vancouver, on the traditional territory of the Tla’amin Nation.
